Urban Ecosystem Research Consortium of Portland/Vancouver

UERC is a consortium of people from various educational institutions, state and federal agencies, local governments, non-profit organizations and businesses, as well as independent professionals and students, interested in supporting urban ecosystem research and creating an information sharing network of people that collect and use ecological data in the Portland/Vancouver area.

The mission of the UERC is to advance the state of the science of urban ecosystems and improve our understanding of them, with a focus on the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan region, by fostering communication and collaboration among researchers, managers and citizens at academic institutions, public agencies, local governments, non-profit organizations, and other interested groups.

The role of the UERC is not to provide a political or advocacy platform, but rather to offer a forum for professionals to exchange and discuss information regarding urban ecology and its application to relevant fields.

The major activities of UERC include an annual symposium in January/February, and brown bag presentations throughout the year.  We host a mailing list, so please sign up if you'd like to be notified of upcoming events!

    Urban Ecology & Conservation Symposium

    1825 SW Broadway, Portland

    The symposium will be focused on urban environmental issues and the practical application of related ecological and social science research in the greater Portland/Vancouver region, featuring:

      • Brief presentations and a poster session that will give you a taste of what’s happening locally

      • Inspiring keynotes by noted researchers and practitioners

      • Networking opportunities pre-conference (8-9 AM), during lunch, and at an afternoon social (4-6 PM)

      • Lunchtime discussion groups with opportunities to share information and further your knowledge

    Call for Abstracts

    Relevant fields include biological, chemical, physical and social sciences, land use planning, habitat management and restoration, climate change, citizen science, and environmental education.  Abstracts should focus on sharing results, lessons learned, or information about opportunities and resources.  

    Abstracts for oral & poster presentations are no longer being accepted for the 2017 symposium.

    General $45   Student: $15   Volunteer*: $10.   Includes lunch.

    *Limited number; register early and select the “volunteer” option.

    Registration rates January 10-27, 2017: 

    General:  $60   Student: $15.   Includes lunch.

    Registration at-the-door:  General: $60   Student: $15

    Credit cards only.  No cash or checks.  Does not include lunch.
